O7E Basic Handgun Entry-Level

The 07E Entry-Level Handgun course in Virginia, Appalachia Training Institute LLC (DCJS #88-10749), is a 16-hour training class designed primarily for Private Investigators and Armored Car Personnel who need to carry a handgun while on duty. It is also a prerequisite for the 09E Advanced Handgun Training. 

The curriculum covers a range of topics, including:

  • Practical handgun handling: This includes identification of handgun parts, drawing, reholstering, ready positions, loading and unloading procedures, addressing malfunctions, and proper care and maintenance.

  • Fundamentals of marksmanship: This includes grip, stance, sight alignment and picture, trigger control, breathing, and follow-through.

  • Reduced light operations: Training and familiarization with dim, low, and reduced light conditions, including target identification, unaided and aided training, flashlight use, reloading in low light, and addressing malfunctions in low light situations.

  • Use of force: Covers the principles of use of force, deadly force, and justifiable deadly force.

  • Liability: Discusses criminal and civil liability related to firearms use, as well as negligent discharge prevention.

  • Judgmental shooting: Involves conducting judgmental shooting scenarios in both classroom and range settings.

  • Lead exposure: Provides information regarding lead exposure. 

  • The course also typically involves range safety, ammunition identification and management, and a DCJS qualification course of fire. A student is usually required to bring their own firearms and ammunition. The minimum passing score is 75%, and you must qualify with the same type of action and caliber you intend to carry on duty. 

This is a 16-hour course and the cost is $200.00, plus range fees.
