O75E Armed Security Officer Handgun Course

The DCJS 075E Security Officer (Handgun) course in Virginia is a 24-hour training program (typically 3 days) that is required to obtain registration as an Armed Security Officer in Virginia. It also meets the requirements for Private Investigators to obtain their DCJS Firearms Endorsement.

The course curriculum includes the following key subjects: 

• Proper Care and Maintenance of the Firearm: This section covers how to properly clean, inspect, and maintain a handgun to ensure it functions correctly and safely.

• Civil and Criminal Liability: This covers the legal aspects of using firearms, including the potential civil and criminal consequences of their use.

• Firearms Retention and Storage: This covers techniques for securely retaining and storing firearms to prevent unauthorized access and accidents.

• Deadly Force and Justifiable Deadly Force: This crucial topic explores the legal principles surrounding the use of deadly force and when it is justifiable in self-defense or the defense of others.

• Range Safety: This covers the rules and procedures for safe conduct on a firing range, emphasizing minimizing risks and ensuring proper firearm handling.

• Principles of Marksmanship: This section focuses on the fundamentals of accurate shooting, including grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, and breathing techniques.

• Practical Firearms Handling and Safety: This covers the practical aspects of handling a handgun safely, including drawing, re-holstering, loading, unloading, and addressing malfunctions.

• Judgmental Shooting: The course incorporates scenario-based training to develop students' judgment and decision-making skills in situations requiring the use of a firearm, including "shoot/don't shoot" drills and engaging multiple targets.

• Dim/Low-Light Shooting Familiarization: This includes practice and training in using firearms effectively in reduced lighting conditions, incorporating techniques like flashlight use and reloading in low light.

• Ammunition Identification and Management: This section teaches students to identify different types of ammunition and manage their use safely.
